There are several types of litter on the market for animals.  When it comes to chinchillas, there are some litters that must be avoided.  Below are lists of safe and unsafe litter.

Safe Litter:

Kiln dried pine

Aspen

Carefresh

Kaytee Softsorb

Potentially Hazardous Litter:

These litters should be avoided.

Cedar  (can be toxic to chins)

Kitty litter  (of any type)

Corn cob (if ingested can cause intestinal blockage resulting in death)

Any litter of unknown content
